Shrimp Cocktail Sauce

This Shrimp Cocktail Sauce blends ketchup, lemon juice, and prepared horseradish to create a classic tangy and spicy dip for cooked, large tail-on shrimp. The balance of sweet, acidic, and pungent flavors complements the chilled shrimp, making it a go-to appetizer or party dish. The sauce can be prepared ahead and refrigerated, allowing the flavors to develop before serving cold alongside peeled shrimp.

Description

Shrimp Cocktail Sauce is a simple mixture of ketchup, lemon juice, and prepared horseradish that provides a bright, slightly spicy accompaniment to large, cooked, tail-on shrimp. The lemon juice adds acidity to balance the sweetness of the ketchup, while horseradish delivers a gentle heat and distinctive sharpness. Mixing and chilling the sauce ahead of time allows the flavors to meld, enhancing the dipping experience. Large shrimp with tails on are recommended for ease of handling and for adding visual appeal to a serving platter.

Serving this sauce with chilled shrimp makes an ideal appetizer or light snack, especially for gatherings or entertaining. The size and tail-on presentation of the shrimp make them convenient finger foods.

Frozen pre-cooked shrimp are suitable for this recipe, ensuring quick preparation. The sauce and shrimp can be stored separately in the refrigerator until serving time.
