Shrimp Creole Recipe

Shrimp Creole is a savory dish featuring peeled, deveined shrimp cooked in a tomato-based sauce flavored with bell peppers, onions, celery, garlic, and a blend of Creole seasonings. The recipe simmers the sauce to develop a thick, flavorful base enhanced by Worcestershire and hot sauce, then finishes by gently cooking the shrimp. Served over rice and garnished with parsley and peppers, this dish blends mild spicy and savory flavors.

Description

The Shrimp Creole Recipe starts by sautéing green bell peppers (or jalapenos for more heat), yellow onion, and celery in olive oil until softened. Garlic is added briefly before stirring in tomato paste to deepen the sauce's richness. Canned chopped tomatoes, shrimp or chicken stock, Worcestershire sauce, hot sauce, bay leaves, and Creole seasoning combine to create a complex sauce that simmers for about 20 minutes.

After removing bay leaves, peeled and deveined shrimp are nestled into the sauce and cooked just until pink and tender. The finished dish has a thick, tomato-rich sauce with a flavorful blend of spices and a mild to moderate heat level depending on pepper choice and hot sauce quantity. The shrimp add a tender, juicy texture contrasting with the aromatic vegetables.

Traditionally served over rice, this dish can be garnished with fresh parsley, sliced peppers, and extra hot sauce for those desiring more spice. The recipe allows adjusting heat by swapping green bell peppers with jalapenos and adding more Creole seasoning or chili flakes as preferred.
