Shrimp Fra Diavolo Recipe

Shrimp Fra Diavolo combines sautéed shrimp with a spicy tomato-based sauce, flavored with garlic, onion, and herbs. The sauce is simmered with crushed tomatoes, white wine, and red pepper flakes, creating a bold and tangy flavor with medium heat. This dish is served over linguine, offering a satisfying pasta meal with a vibrant, lightly spicy seafood sauce.

Description

Shrimp Fra Diavolo features shrimp cooked briefly until just pink, then combined with a sauce made from sautéed onions, optional red pepper, garlic, crushed tomatoes, white wine, dried oregano, and red chili flakes. The sauce simmers to meld the flavors, resulting in a rich, spicy tomato sauce that complements the tender shrimp. Fresh parsley and basil add brightness at the end. The cooked linguine provides a neutral backdrop to balance the spicy notes, making this a flavorful seafood pasta dish.

The medium heat and tomato-based sauce deliver a classic Italian-American flavor profile. The shrimp are cooked separately to avoid overcooking and then returned to the sauce to warm through. Fresh herbs finish the dish with a fresh aroma and taste. The optional red pepper provides extra spice for those who like more heat.

This dish is typically served immediately, tossed with linguine noodles to absorb the sauce. It can be garnished with extra red chili flakes and parsley for presentation and added spice. It's a satisfying main course that showcases both seafood and a robust, spicy tomato sauce.

Adjust the spiciness by controlling the amount of red chili flakes and whether to include the fresh red pepper. The instructions note that simmering for 10 minutes or longer can deepen the flavor. It's best served soon after preparation to enjoy the shrimp's tenderness and the sauce's freshness.
