Simple Guacamole

This Simple Guacamole combines ripe avocado with finely chopped red onion, cilantro, garlic, and jalapeño for a fresh and balanced taste. The lime juice adds brightness while salt enhances the overall flavor. The texture is creamy with small bursts of crunch and heat from the jalapeño. It makes a versatile dip served immediately with tortilla chips or as a topping for many dishes.

Description

Simple Guacamole highlights mashed fresh avocado as the creamy base, mixed with finely chopped red onion, cilantro, garlic, and jalapeño pepper to bring a blend of mild heat and herbal notes. Lime juice contributes acidity that brightens the flavors and also prevents rapid browning. Salt brings all the ingredients together for a well-rounded taste.

The texture is creamy but can be adjusted by mashing with a fork to either smooth or chunkier consistency, punctuated by the texture of onion and jalapeño bits. This guacamole is prepared by mashing avocado first, then stirring in the other ingredients to ensure freshness and balance.

It works well as a dip served immediately alongside tortilla chips or as a condiment for tacos and grilled dishes. The recipe suggests storing leftover guacamole with plastic wrap pressed onto the surface to slow browning, making it suitable for preparing in advance with some ingredients chopped and juice squeezed the day before to reduce assembly time before serving.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 3 avocado
  • ½ cup red onion finely chopped
  • ¼ cup cilantro chopped
  • 1 garlic minced, clove
  • 1 jalapeño seeded and finely minced
  • 1 lime juiced
  • ½ teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Cut the avocados in half lengthwise. Remove the pit, scoop out the avocado flesh with a spoon and place the avocado halves in a medium bowl. Mash with a fork to your desired consistency.
  2. Add the red onions, cilantro, garlic, jalapeño pepper, lime juice and salt. Stir to combine. Taste and adjust seasoning or lime juice as necessary.
  3. Serve immediately with tortilla chips, if desired.

Notes

  • Store leftover guacamole in an airtight container with plastic wrap pressed on the surface to minimize browning, lasting 3-4 days refrigerated.
  • If browning occurs, scrape off the top layer before serving to maintain freshness.
  • You can chop the ingredients and juice the lime up to a day ahead, then mash and combine just before serving for convenience.
