Skillet Baked Ziti

Skillet Baked Ziti is a one-pan comfort meal combining ground beef, onions, garlic, marinara sauce, tomato paste, and uncooked ziti pasta cooked together, then topped with mozzarella and ricotta cheeses. The baking process in the skillet creates tender pasta infused with rich tomato sauce and melted cheese, providing a hearty and satisfying dish that simplifies traditional baked ziti preparation.

Description

This Skillet Baked Ziti starts by browning ground beef with chopped onions until the meat is cooked through and onions are translucent. Minced garlic is added for aromatic depth before incorporating marinara sauce, tomato paste, dried oregano, basil, and water. Uncooked ziti pasta is stirred in, and the mixture is brought to a boil, then simmered covered for about 18 to 20 minutes, allowing the pasta to cook fully in the sauce and absorb the flavors.

Once the pasta is tender, the skillet is uncovered, and chunks of mozzarella and dollops of ricotta cheese are added on top, creating a creamy melted cheese layer. This no-boil, no-oven version of baked ziti offers convenience and rich flavor with minimal cleanup, making it an approachable weeknight meal.

The dish can be served directly from the skillet, offering warm, cheesy pasta with a balanced sauce and tender meat. The use of dried herbs enhances the Italian-inspired flavor profile, while the combined cheeses contribute a pleasant contrast in texture.
