Skillet Honey Garlic Chicken
Description
This recipe uses seasoned chunks of chicken breast cooked in olive oil over medium heat until lightly browned. The honey garlic sauce consists of chicken broth, minced garlic, honey, soy sauce, cornstarch for thickening, and a pinch of red pepper flakes for subtle heat. Once the chicken has started to brown, the sauce is stirred and poured over the chicken to simmer, allowing the flavors to meld and thicken the sauce while cooking the chicken through.
The resulting dish balances the savory notes of soy and broth with the sweetness of honey and a mild garlic punch. The texture is tender chicken with a glossy coating of the syrupy honey garlic sauce. It is suggested to serve the chicken over a bed of freshly cooked rice or quinoa accompanied by edamame, offering a nutritious and satisfying meal.
Ingredients
- 2 pounds chicken breast cubed, boneless skinless
- salt
- black pepper
- ¾ cup chicken broth low-sodium
- 6 garlic finely minced or pressed through a garlic press, cloves
- 2 tablespoons honey
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 teaspoon cornstarch
- Pinch red pepper flakes
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- rice hot cooked, for serving, optional
- quinoa
- edamame
Instructions
- Lightly season the chicken pieces with salt and pepper.
- Whisk together the broth, garlic, honey, soy sauce, cornstarch, and red pepper flakes. Set aside.
- In a large, nonstick 12-inch skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat until hot and rippling.
- Add the chicken in a single layer and cook, without stirring, for a minute or two until the chicken starts to turn golden on the side in contact with the hot skillet. Flip the chicken pieces.
- Whisk the sauce to recombine and stir it into the skillet; bring the mixture to a simmer.
- Cook for 2-3 minutes until the sauce has thickened slightly and the chicken is cooked through.
- Serve over hot, cooked rice or quinoa and edamame (optional, but delicious).
