Skillet Lasagna
Description
This recipe starts by browning ground beef seasoned with salt and pepper in olive oil, followed by adding garlic, dried minced onion, a blend of dried oregano, basil, garlic powder, and optional red pepper flakes for mild heat. Pasta sauce is stirred in and brought to simmer. Bite-sized pasta and water are added to the skillet, covered, and simmered until the pasta is tender, absorbing the flavors of the sauce and beef.
Off the heat, Parmesan and shredded mozzarella are stirred in for melting cheese integration. Ricotta is dolloped on top and allowed to warm under a lid, creating creamy pockets. Fresh basil leaves finish the dish, adding herbal brightness. This approach results in a saucy, cheesy, and hearty dish similar in flavor composition to traditional baked lasagna, but achieved quickly in one skillet.
It is best served immediately while cheeses are creamy and slightly melted.
To prepare ahead, complete all steps up to adding pasta and water, refrigerate, and then cook the pasta when ready to serve.
