Sloppy Joe Biscuits

Sloppy Joe Biscuits feature seasoned ground beef simmered in a tangy sloppy joe sauce tucked inside baked biscuit cups and topped with sharp cheddar cheese. The biscuit cups provide a flaky, golden crust that holds the savory beef filling, combining hearty meatiness with tender biscuit texture. This handheld dish is suitable for casual meals or snacks, offering a comforting mix of flavors and textures.

Description

The Sloppy Joe Biscuits recipe starts by browning ground beef and optional onions, then combining them with a tangy sloppy joe sauce and simmering briefly. Refrigerated biscuit dough is pressed into muffin tins to form cups and baked with the meat mixture inside until the biscuits develop a deep golden brown crust. Serving immediately topped with shredded sharp cheddar cheese adds a melty, creamy element. The biscuits' flakiness contrasts the savory, juicy beef filling, making each bite rich and satisfying.

This dish can accommodate variations by using homemade or canned sloppy joe sauce and experimenting with different cheese types like blue cheese or mozzarella for flavor diversity. It is ideal for a casual dinner or finger food at gatherings.

Preparation is straightforward with pantry staples and ready-to-use dough, making it practical for those wanting a comforting yet flavorful meal that blends a classic American sandwich flavor with biscuit texture.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 onion finely chopped (optional)
  • 2 cans biscuit dough refrigerated
  • 2 cups sloppy joe sauce Our Homemade Sauce or canned
  • 8 ounces cheddar cheese I like sharp cheddar best, shredded

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet, brown beef and onion. Add sloppy joe sauce and simmer on low heat for about 5 minutes.
  2. While beef mixture is simmering, open biscuit dough and press individual biscuits into a greased muffin tin forming a "cup".
  3. Place a scoop of beef mixture into the center of each biscuit cup and bake at 350-degrees for about 15-20 minutes (take them out when the edges are a deep, golden brown).
  4.  Immediately top with cheese, then serve!

Notes

  • Try making your own sloppy joe sauce with condensed tomato soup, ketchup, mustard, brown sugar, salt, pepper, and cayenne for a unique flavor.
  • Experiment with different proteins such as shredded pork or chicken in place of ground beef for variety.
  • Using cheeses like blue cheese or mozzarella can offer a different taste profile.
