Sloppy Joe Stuffed French Bread
Description
This recipe begins by browning ground beef with diced green pepper and chopped onion. A sauce made from Worcestershire sauce, ketchup, brown sugar, salt, and pepper is added to create a sweet and tangy sloppy joe filling. The mixture simmers briefly to meld flavors. French bread loaves are sliced in half lengthwise and hollowed slightly to hold the filling.
The halves are toasted briefly in the oven to crisp the crust, then filled with the sloppy joe mixture. A generous layer of shredded mozzarella and cheddar cheeses tops the filling before returning to the oven to melt the cheese. The final dish balances savory meatiness and mild sweetness with melted cheese and crusty bread, providing a fulfilling meal.
It can be served as a casual main dish, suitable for feeding a group or enjoying as a handheld sandwich.
