Slow Cooker Apple Cider From Scratch

This slow cooker apple cider uses quartered Gala apples and whole spices like cinnamon, cloves, and allspice simmered with water and optional orange slices. After slow cooking, the apples are mashed and sweetened with brown sugar before a final slow simmer. The cider is then strained, yielding a warm, spiced beverage full of fresh apple flavor, suitable for serving hot or chilling for later.

Description

The recipe uses eight quartered Gala apples combined with cinnamon sticks, whole cloves, and allspice in a slow cooker. Sliced orange can be added for citrus notes. The mixture cooks on high for three hours to soften the fruit and infuse the water with spice and apple essence. After mashing the cooked apples to release more juice, brown sugar is stirred in and the cider is cooked gently on low for another one to three hours.

The solids are then strained out, leaving a clear spiced apple cider. This method produces a fresh, unprocessed style of apple cider free from added preservatives. It can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to one week or frozen for later use, offering a cozy seasonal drink that showcases natural sweetness and warming spices.
