Slow Cooker Apple Pear Butter
Description
This recipe uses a variety of apples and ripe pears peeled and cut into chunks, combined with warm spices including ground cinnamon, ginger, and cardamom. The fruit is cooked in a slow cooker on low heat with maple syrup, lemon juice, and a little water to prevent sticking. Cooking for about six hours softens the fruit thoroughly, allowing the flavors to meld and intensify.
The butter is mashed throughout cooking and blended smooth once cooking finishes, resulting in a thick, velvety fruit butter without added sugar beyond the maple syrup. The acidity from the lemon juice balances the sweetness, while the spices bring warmth and depth.
This apple pear butter can be spread on toast, stirred into yogurt, or used in baking. It stores well refrigerated or frozen and can be canned following proper safety guidelines for longer storage. Its rich, spiced flavor makes it a versatile homemade fruit preserve.
