Description
This recipe starts by layering a trimmed brisket in a slow cooker with beef broth, soy sauce, and a dry rub of smoked paprika, brown sugar, onion powder, garlic salt, and black pepper. Half the BBQ sauce is poured over before cooking on low heat for 8 to 10 hours until the meat softens and becomes tender.
For a more textured crust, the brisket can be removed, brushed with the remaining BBQ sauce, and broiled briefly to develop browning and caramelization. The meat can be sliced against the grain for neat slices or with the grain to create a pulled brisket effect, adapting texture to preference. Parsley can be used as garnish.
Both serving styles provide a juicy, flavorful brisket suited to dinner or sandwiches. The slow cooking allows flavors to penetrate deeply and create a tender texture that pulls apart easily or holds together for slicing.
Ingredients
- 5-7 pound beef brisket trimmed
- 1 cup beef broth
- 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1 cup BBQ sauce divided
- 2 tablespoons smoked paprika
- 3 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon onion powder
- 2 teaspoons garlic salt
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- parsley optional, for garnish
Instructions
- To your slow cooker add the brisket.
- Add in the beef broth and soy sauce.
- Over the meat sprinkle the smoked paprika, brown sugar, onion powder, garlic salt, and black pepper.
- Pour over ½ cup of the bbq sauce.
- Cook on low for 8-10 hours until the brisket is tender.
- This next step is optional to get a crust on the brisket.
- Remove the brisket and place on a foil lined baking sheet, brush with remaining bbq sauce and broil until a brown crust is formed.
- You can skip that part and serve it straight from the slow cooker, both ways are delicious!
- You can slice the brisket against the grain for nice slices or with the grain for a more pulled brisket style.
- Serve!
