Slow Cooker Brown Sugar Garlic Pork
Description
The recipe begins by seasoning chunks of pork shoulder with salt and pepper and browning them in a hot skillet to develop color and flavor. Meanwhile, a sauce is prepared combining unsalted butter, packed brown sugar, apple cider vinegar and apple juice, liquid smoke, minced garlic, salt, pepper, cinnamon, ground ginger, paprika, and optional cayenne pepper.
The browned pork is placed into a slow cooker and the sauce poured over to coat thoroughly. Cooking on high for 4-5 hours or low for 8-9 hours renders the pork tender and infuses it with the sweet, tangy, and smoky sauce. The cooked pork is served with the sauce drizzled on top.
Serving ideas include rice or mashed potatoes to balance the rich pork. Garnishing with chopped parsley and rosemary adds a fresh herbal finish. The slow cooking method breaks down the pork shoulder making it soft and flavorful across the pieces.
