  • 1 medium head cabbage shredded
  • 12 ounces uncured bacon chopped
  • 8 ounces Italian sausage ground
  • ¾ cup chicken broth
  • ½ yellow onion diced
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
  • 1 ½ teaspoons smoked paprika
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper ground

Instructions

  1. Heat a large skillet to medium and add in the bacon and sausage. Cook until the bacon is crisp and the sausage is browned.
  2. Add in the onion and sauté for a few minutes until tender.
  3. Add in the garlic and sauté for 15-20 seconds, then remove from the heat and set aside.
  4. In the insert of your slow cooker, add in the shredded cabbage.
  5. Add in the chicken broth, apple cider vinegar, butter, smoked paprika, salt and pepper.
  6. Pour the bacon, sausage and onion mixture with the fat in the pan over the cabbage and cook on high heat for 3 hours or low for 5-6 hours or until the cabbage is as tender as you like it.

Notes

  • For firmer cabbage texture, reduce slow cooker time to 2 to 2.5 hours.
