Slow Cooker Cajun Butter Turkey Breast
Description
The turkey breast is placed over onions in a slow cooker to create a flavor base and moisture. A Cajun butter mixture made by blending room temperature butter with paprika, garlic powder, cayenne, smoked paprika, pepper, oregano, and salt is gently worked under the loosened turkey skin and rubbed on the surface. This seasoning technique ensures the meat directly contacts the flavorful butter and spices.
The slow cooker cooks the turkey on low for 6 to 7 hours until the internal temperature reaches 165°F, resulting in evenly cooked, juicy breast meat. The finishing step uses a broiler to crispen and darken the skin, adding browned texture and enhancing appeal. This makes the turkey suitable for sliced presentations or serving as a main dish.
Ingredients
- 5-6 lb. turkey breast (bone-in)
- 1 yellow onion chopped
- 1/2 cup butter more butter may be needed if turkey is on the larger end, room temperature
- 1/2 tbsp. paprika
- 1/2 tsp. garlic powder
- 1/4 tsp. onion powder
- 1/2 tsp. cayenne pepper
- 1/2 tsp. smoked paprika
- 1/4 tsp. white pepper
- 1/4 tsp. black pepper
- 1/2 tsp. oregano dried
- 1 tsp. salt sea salt
Instructions
- Add onion to the bottom of your slow cooker and place turkey breast on top of the onion.
- Make Cajun butter: Combine all of the seasonings to the soft, room-temperature butter and mix until fully incorporated.
- Gently loosen the skin from the turkey breast and using your fingers, grab some of the Cajun butter and spread it under the skin as much as you can and also rub the exterior of the turkey breast with the Cajun butter.
- Cook the turkey breast on low for 6-7 hours, or until a meat thermometer says it is 165°.
- Remove turkey from slow cooker and place in baking dish. Heat oven to "broiler" and broil the turkey breast for 3-4 minutes or until the skin has darkened and crisped up a little bit. Enjoy!
