Slow Cooker Chicken Wings
Description
The Slow Cooker Chicken Wings recipe starts with party-style wings seasoned simply with salt and pepper. They cook slowly in a flavorful BBQ sauce blending brown sugar, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, onion powder, and garlic powder, which infuses them with sweet and savory notes while keeping the meat moist. Slow cooking for several hours tenderizes the wings.
Once cooked, the wings are broiled briefly on a greased sheet pan to crisp the skin and create a slight char, enhancing texture and appearance. Brushing additional sauce onto the wings before serving amplifies the saucy coating.
This recipe is well-suited for gatherings or casual meals. The wings can be kept refrigerated for up to three days and reheated in the oven to maintain crispness. Using party-style wings facilitates handling as the drumette is already separated from the flat.
Ingredients
- 3 pounds chicken wings party style
- 1 teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- 1½ cups BBQ sauce
- ¼ cup brown sugar
- ¼ cup ketchup
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- ¼ teaspoon onion powder
- ¼ teaspoon garlic powder
- cooking spray
Instructions
- Place the chicken wings in the slow cooker. Season then with the salt and pepper.
- Place the BBQ sauce, brown sugar, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, onion powder and garlic powder in a medium bowl. Whisk until well combined.
- Pour the sauce over the chicken wings. Stir to combine. Cover and cook on high for 2-3 hours or low for 4-5 hours.
- Remove the wings from the slow cooker and place them on a sheet pan coated in cooking spray.
- Preheat the broiler. Broil the sheet pan of wings for 3-4 minutes or until crispy and browned. Flip the wings and broil the other side for another 1-2 minutes.
- Brush some of the sauce from the slow cooker onto the broiled wings, then serve immediately.
Notes
- Choose party-style wings, which have the drumette separated from the flat for easier cooking and eating.
- You can use homemade BBQ sauce or your favorite store-bought brand depending on preference.
- Store leftover wings in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to three days.
- Reheat wings in the oven to help retain or restore crispiness.
