Slow Cooker Chinese Style Pork Chops
Description
These Slow Cooker Chinese Style Pork Chops use either bone-in or boneless pork chops or a pork roast cooked in a sauce combining ketchup, soy sauce, brown sugar, chicken broth, garlic, and ground ginger. The onions are layered on top before the sauce is poured over. The slow cooking process allows the pork to become fork tender while absorbing the sweet and savory elements of the sauce.
The flavor profile balances sweetness from brown sugar and ketchup with salty depth from soy sauce and aromatic notes from garlic and ginger. The pork maintains moisture by cooking submerged in the sauce and can be served with rice to soak up the flavorful gravy.
For best results, pork chops should be fully thawed and occasionally repositioned during cooking to ensure even exposure to the sauce and prevent drying. The cooking time varies depending on the cut and size of pork used, with the roast requiring the longest time. Using a meat thermometer helps confirm doneness.
Ingredients
- 4-6 pork chops bone-in or boneless or you can use pork roast
- 1 onion sliced
- 1 cup ketchup
- ½ cup chicken broth
- ½ cup soy sauce
- ½ cup brown sugar packed
- 2 tablespoons garlic minced
- 2 teaspoons ground ginger
- cooking spray
Instructions
- Prepare your slow cooker with cooking spray and turn it on to high.
- Place your roast or pork chops on the bottom of your slow cooker.
- Sprinkle your sliced onions all over the top of your pork roast or pork chops.
- In a large bowl combine ketchup, broth, brown sugar, soy sauce, garlic, and ginger and pour over top of your pork roast or pork chops
- Turn your slow cooker down to low and cook for 3-4 hours for pork chops and 5-7 hours for a roast.
- Pork should be fork tender.
- Cooking time will depend on whether you use a roast or chops and how big they are. Check with a meat thermometer to be sure!
- Serve with rice and drizzle gravy all over! Enjoy!
Notes
- Ensure pork chops are fully thawed before slow cooking for even cooking and safety.
- Turn or move pork pieces during cooking to keep them evenly coated and moist.
- The pork should be submerged in the sauce mixture for juicier, tender results.
- Adjust cooking time if using a pork roast, as it needs longer than chops to become tender.
- Check internal temperature with a meat thermometer to confirm doneness.
- Serve pork chops topped with the sauce along with rice.
