Slow Cooker Green Beans Recipe

This slow cooker green beans recipe coats fresh trimmed green beans in a mixture of melted butter, brown sugar, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and soy sauce, then cooks them slowly for tender results. Optional additions include chicken stock to increase tenderness and diced crispy bacon as a garnish. The beans develop a sweet and savory flavor suited for side dishes at meals, with the slow cooker allowing hands-off preparation.

Description

The Slow Cooker Green Beans start by whisking together a melted butter marinade with brown sugar, kosher salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and soy sauce or coconut aminos. Fresh green beans are tossed in this mixture and cooked in a slow cooker on either high or low heat, allowing the beans to absorb the sweet and savory marinade while tenderizing over time. Adding chicken stock can help produce softer beans if preferred.

Optional crispy diced bacon adds a smoky and rich texture contrast when sprinkled on top after cooking. This recipe balances the natural freshness of green beans with a buttery sweetness and a touch of umami from soy sauce, creating a rich, flavorful side dish suitable for dinner tables.

The dish can be prepared in advance and stored refrigerated for 3 to 5 days or frozen for up to 3 months, with reheating steps that include adding bacon on top if stored separately. Omitting bacon makes it vegetarian or vegan friendly while maintaining the core flavors of the dish.
