Slow Cooker Ham Recipe
Description
The recipe calls for placing a 7 to 10-pound bone-in ham cut side down in a slow cooker. Brown sugar is rubbed over the ham’s surface, with honey and pineapple juice poured on top. The ham cooks covered on low heat for 4 to 6 hours until it reaches an internal temperature of 140°F and becomes tender.
After cooking, the ham is transferred to a serving platter and sliced off the bone. Excess fat is trimmed away before serving. The slow cooker juices are drizzled over the slices to add moisture and flavor. This method ensures the ham stays tender and has a sweet, fruity glaze from the pineapple and honey.
This approach works well with bone-in hams but is adaptable for spiral or boneless hams. If the ham does not fit inside the slow cooker fully, heavy-duty foil can be used to cover and seal the cooker or the ham can be partially cut to fit.
The ham can be refrigerated in an airtight container for up to five days. Drippings retained in the slow cooker can be saved and reapplied to keep slices moist during serving.
Ingredients
- 7-10 pounds ham bone-in
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1 cup honey
- 1 cup pineapple juice
Instructions
- Place the ham in a crock pot cut side down. Rub the brown sugar on the outside of the ham. Pour the honey and pineapple juice over the top of the ham.
- Cover and cook on low for 4-6 hours until the ham reaches an internal temperature of 140 degrees F and the ham is tender.
- Move the ham to a serving platter and cut the ham off of the bone. Remove and dispose of any excess fat. Then drizzle the excess sauce from the crock pot over the ham when serving. Enjoy!
Notes
- Store leftover ham in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to five days.
- If the ham is too large for your slow cooker, cover the cooker with heavy-duty foil sealed tightly or cut the ham into smaller portions to fit.
- You can use a bone-in ham, spiral ham, or boneless ham with this recipe.
- Drizzle the cooking juices over the sliced ham when serving to keep the meat moist and flavorful.
