Slow Cooker Hot Chocolate
Description
The Slow Cooker Hot Chocolate recipe features a blend of cocoa powder, sweetened condensed milk, and both semisweet and milk chocolate chips to build a deep chocolate base. Using whole milk and heavy cream adds to the richness and silky texture achievable from the slow cooking process. The vanilla extract contributes a subtle aromatic warmth. Cooking on low for two hours allows the chocolate chips to melt thoroughly and the mixture to thicken slightly, resulting in a velvety smooth drink.
The preparation involves combining all ingredients in the slow cooker, then stirring well once the chocolate chips have melted and the flavors have melded. Keeping it on the warm setting maintains the ideal serving temperature without overcooking. The hot chocolate can be served garnished with marshmallows or whipped cream, enhancing the creaminess and adding textural contrast.
For best results, use whole milk for creaminess, although 1% or 2% milk can be used to reduce calories. The chocolate may initially settle at the bottom after cooking; vigorous stirring helps achieve a smooth, even consistency. This simple method allows for effortless preparation and a comforting, rich hot chocolate suitable for chilly days.
