Slow Cooker McRib Sandwiches

Slow Cooker McRib Sandwiches use baby back ribs cooked low and slow until tender, coated in a homemade McDonald's-style BBQ sauce, then finished under the broiler. The ribs are served on toasted hoagie rolls with butter, topped with pickles and diced onions, creating a flavorful, hands-on sandwich inspired by the classic McRib.

Description

This recipe begins by seasoning baby back ribs with salt and pepper before slow cooking them on low heat for 7 to 8 hours, which tenderizes the meat until it easily pulls from the bones. While the ribs cook, a McDonald's-style BBQ sauce is prepared by combining ketchup, apple cider vinegar, brown sugar, mustard, onion powder, garlic powder, liquid smoke, cayenne, and smoked paprika, simmered until thickened.

After slow cooking, the ribs are removed, coated generously with the BBQ sauce, and briefly broiled for 1 to 2 minutes to caramelize the sauce. Buttered hoagie rolls are toasted, then the rib meat, carefully slid off the bones, is arranged on the rolls and topped with sliced pickles and diced onions for added crispness and tang.

This sandwich recreates the McRib's texture and flavor, balancing smoky, sweet, and tangy BBQ notes with the toppings. It's a hearty, satisfying meal that showcases the tenderness of slow-cooked ribs paired with a distinctive sauce and fresh garnishes.

Using the slow cooker ensures the ribs become tender enough for easy deboning. Broiling at the end adds a touch of caramelized texture to the sauced ribs. Buttering and toasting the hoagie rolls provides richness and crispness that complement the sandwich fillings.
