Slow Cooker Pulled Chicken Burger

This Slow Cooker Pulled Chicken Burger uses boneless, skinless chicken breasts cooked in a mixture of Worcestershire sauce, apple cider vinegar, honey, yellow mustard, and warm spices. Slow cooking with sliced onion and crushed tomatoes creates tender, flavorful chicken that easily shreds. The rich sauce makes the shredded chicken ideal for burger fillings accompanied by pickled jalapenos and buns.

Description

The recipe begins by rubbing chicken breasts with a well-balanced sauce of vinegar and honey sweetness, mustard tanginess, and spices like cumin, chili powder, garlic powder, and coriander, which infuse the meat during the slow cooking process. The addition of sliced sweet onion and crushed tomatoes enriches the sauce with sweetness and acidity. Slow cooking on low heat for 7-8 hours ensures the chicken becomes very tender and shreds effortlessly.

The shredded chicken mixed with the thick sauce delivers moist texture and bold flavor, suitable for serving on buns. Pickled jalapenos can be added for a spicy contrast. This dish works well for casual meals or gatherings needing easy, hands-on serving.

Notes recommend monitoring internal temperature to reach 165°F for safe consumption. Leftovers keep refrigerated for 3-4 days and freeze well up to six months. The recipe allows substitutions such as using maple syrup instead of honey or swapping chicken for lean beef, and bun choice affects the calorie content and dietary suitability.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 1.2 pounds chicken breast boneless, skinless
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 3 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 3 tablespoons yellow mustard
  • 2 teaspoons cumin ground
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground coriander
  • 1 sweet onion medium, halved and thinly sliced
  • 14 ounces crushed tomatoes canned

Optional

  • 4 burger buns
  • pickled jalapeno

Instructions

  1. Place the chicken breast in the slow cooker.
  2. In a small bowl, whisk the Worcestershire sauce, vinegar, honey, mustard and seasonings. Top the chicken with this mixture, then using your clean hands give it a good rub on all sides.
  3. Add in the sliced onion and crushed tomatoes. Cover with the lid and cook on LOW for 7-8 hours, or until chicken is cooked through and super tender.
  4. Once done, remove the chicken from the pot and shred with the help of two forks, mixing it well into the sauce.
  5. Serve the shredded chicken with pickled jalapeno and burger buns. Enjoy!

Notes

  • Check chicken reaches 165°F internally for safe cooking.
  • Store leftovers in the refrigerator for 3-4 days or freeze in airtight containers for up to 6 months.
  • Whole wheat or gluten-free buns can be used depending on dietary needs; omitting buns lowers calories and carbs.
  • Maple syrup can substitute honey as a sweetener.
  • Lean-cut beef may be used instead of chicken with adjustments to cooking time.
