Slow Cooker Salisbury Steak
Description
This recipe begins by sautéing sliced mushrooms and onions placed at the bottom of the slow cooker. Ground beef is mixed with egg yolk, minced onion, panko, milk, garlic, salt, and pepper, then formed into six patties and browned lightly on both sides to develop flavor and a slight crust.
The browned patties are layered over the mushrooms and onions. A mixture of beef broth, brown gravy mix, ketchup, Dijon mustard, and parsley is poured over the meat. The slow cooker runs on low for five hours, allowing the flavors to meld while the meat becomes tender.
Once cooking is complete, the patties are removed, and the gravy is thickened with a cornstarch slurry heated on high for a few minutes, then the meat is returned to coat with the thickened sauce. The finished dish offers richly flavored Salisbury steak with mushrooms and onions in a savory brown gravy. It is typically served over mashed potatoes or rice for a comforting meal.
