Slow Cooker Smoked Pulled Pork

Slow Cooker Smoked Pulled Pork features a pork butt roast seasoned with brown sugar, Cajun seasoning, apple cider vinegar, and liquid smoke. Slowly cooked until tender in a slow cooker, the pork shreds easily and absorbs smoky and tangy flavors, producing moist pulled pork suitable for sandwiches and savory dishes.

Description

This pulled pork recipe uses a 5-pound pork butt roast rubbed with a mix of brown sugar and Cajun spices. The meat cooks in a combination of apple cider vinegar, liquid smoke, and water inside a slow cooker, slowly becoming tender over hours of low or high heat until it falls apart easily.

The cooking method allows the flavors to penetrate the meat thoroughly, balancing sweetness, tanginess, and smoky depth. Shredding the pork in its cooking juices keeps the meat moist and flavorful.

The pulled pork can be served with traditional southern sides or used in dishes like sandwiches, tacos, or nachos, making it versatile for different meals and occasions.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 5 pound pork butt roast
  • 1/4 cup light brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons Cajun seasoning
  • 1 tablespoon liquid smoke

Instructions

  1. Place the pork roast in a large oval 8 quart slow cooker. Pour the vinegar, liquid smoke, and 1/4 cup water in the bottom of the crock.
  2. Mix the brown sugar and Cajun seasoning together. Rub it all over the pork roast, then pour the leftovers in the bottom of the crock.
  3. Cover the slow cooker. Cook on high for 7-8 hours, or on low for 12+ hours. Once the meat is fork-tender and falling apart, use two forks to shred the pork roast right in the juices. Mix well to coat.

Notes

  • Serve the shredded pork with classic southern side dishes or use it as a filling for sandwiches, nachos, or tacos.
