Slow Cooker Turkey Breast
Description
Slow Cooker Turkey Breast features a boneless, skin-on turkey breast coated in a carefully mixed rub including Italian herbs, garlic and onion powders, paprika, basil, brown sugar, liquid smoke, and Worcestershire sauce. It is slow-cooked over aromatic vegetables and chicken broth, which infuse the meat with gentle moisture and flavor. Cooking at a low temperature for several hours results in tender and juicy turkey with aromatic undertones from the rub.
The method finishes with a quick broil to crisp the skin, introducing a contrasting texture to the succulent meat. Butter or leftover rub mixture can be brushed on during broiling for extra richness. After resting, the turkey is sliced and ready for serving, pairing well with roasted vegetables or mashed potatoes.
The recipe provides guidance to monitor internal temperature to avoid overcooking, ensuring the turkey remains moist throughout the process. Resting before slicing allows juices to redistribute, improving texture and flavor.
Ingredients
- 1 turkey breast about 2 to 2 ½ pounds, boneless, with skin
- 1 cup chicken broth low-sodium
- 2 celery halved, stalks
- 2 carrot quartered
- 1 red onion cut into ½" wedges, large
- 4 cloves garlic whole
Rub mixture:
- 2 tablespoons butter or olive oil, melted
- 1 teaspoon italian herbs
- 1 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon basil dried
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon liquid smoke
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
Instructions
- In a small bowl mix all the Rub mixture ingredients.
- Spread the mixture evenly over the turkey breast.
- Pour the broth to the bottom of a slow cooker and place the vegetables on the bottom.
- Place the turkey breast, skin side up, on top of the vegetables.
- Cover with the lid and cook on low for 6-7 hours or until internal temperature reaches 165°F. Do not overcook.
- For crispy skin, place the turkey breast on a foil-lined baking sheet and broil for 3-5 minutes or until browned.
- Brush with melted butter from time to time or leftover rub mixture.
- Let it rest for 15 minutes before slicing and serving.
