Smoked Brisket Chili Recipe

Smoked Brisket Chili features chopped smoked brisket simmered with tomato sauce, spices, green chiles, and two types of beans. The chili is rich and smoky with a medium spice level that can be adjusted by omitting or adding chiles and chili powder. Slow simmering develops a deep layered flavor, while the beans add hearty texture.

Description

This chili begins by sautéing onion and garlic in avocado oil until softened and aromatic. Smoked brisket chunks are then combined with tomato sauce, chili powder, ground cumin, salt, pepper, beef bouillon, water, and roasted green chiles. Simmering this mixture allows the brisket to meld with spices and sauce for about 15 to 20 minutes before adding pinto and chili beans. Heating the chili further until beans are warmed through completes the dish.

The smoked brisket imparts a distinctive smokiness balancing the savory tomato base and spice blend. The green chiles add mild heat and flavor complexity but can be omitted or increased to suit taste. Beans contribute creaminess and substance, making the chili filling and prized for its robust, smoky character.

This chili is versatile for serving as a meal on its own or with toppings such as cheese or sour cream. Adjusting the spice level can accommodate different heat tolerance, and a large pot or Dutch oven is recommended for easy stirring and simmering. Leftover chili can be refrigerated or frozen.

Omitting beans is an option if preferred. Incrementally adding cayenne can increase heat. The simmering step is essential for flavor development despite seeming extra. A Dutch oven or large pot provides adequate space for stirring during longer cooking.

  • 2 teaspoons cumin ground
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper ground

Notes

  • Adjust spice level by omitting or adding green chiles and chili powder to suit taste.
  • Simmering the chili enhances depth of flavor despite seeming like an extra step.
  • Using a large pot or Dutch oven helps with stirring and simmering comfortably.
  • Beans can be omitted if preferred without altering the chili's core flavor profile.
  • Adding cayenne pepper can increase heat intensity incrementally.
