Smoked Salmon Appetizer Recipe
Description
The recipe begins by preparing a lemon dill cream cheese blend, combining full-fat cream cheese and Greek yogurt whipped together with lemon zest, lemon juice, minced dill, and garlic until smooth and creamy. This mixture is piped onto cucumber rounds that serve as a crisp base for rolled strips of cold smoked salmon (lox). The appetizer is garnished with additional dill and freshly cracked black pepper to enhance aroma and flavor.
The contrasting textures of crunchy cucumber, silky cream cheese, and tender smoked salmon create a layered, refreshing appetizer. Lemon and dill add bright, herbaceous notes that balance the salmon's smoky richness. The presentation involves piping the cream cheese neatly, lending a decorative touch.
This appetizer is suitable for serving at gatherings or as part of a light lunch or snack. The components can be prepared ahead and assembled just before serving to maintain freshness. Using regular cream cheese as opposed to light versions ensures the best texture and taste in the lemon dill cream cheese spread.
Notes indicate that the cream cheese mixture can be made up to two days in advance and stored refrigerated, allowing the flavors to develop and simplifying assembly.
