Smoked Trout Mousse

Smoked Trout Mousse blends smoked trout with softened butter, horseradish, whipping cream, lemon juice, and seasoning for a smooth yet slightly textured spread. Garnished with fresh chives or dill, this mousse offers a creamy, tangy accompaniment ideal for crackers or bread.

Description

This Smoked Trout Mousse recipe starts by pulsing smoked trout in a food processor to break it down but keep some texture. Softened butter is added to create richness and a smooth base. The mixture incorporates prepared horseradish and lemon juice, which provide a sharp, tangy contrast to the smoky fish flavor. Whipping cream is added to lighten the texture and add creaminess.

The mousse is pulsed just until blended but not entirely smooth, retaining some small flakes of fish for bite and visual appeal. White pepper and kosher salt balance seasoning without overwhelming the delicate flavors. It is finished with optional chopped fresh chives or dill to introduce mild herbal freshness and color.

Chilled, this mousse serves well as an appetizer spread on toast, crackers, or vegetables. Its creamy texture pairs well with the smokiness of the trout and the subtle heat of horseradish. It offers an elegant, easy-to-prepare dish for entertaining or light snacks.
