Smoky Vanilla Bourbon Pretzels

Smoky Vanilla Bourbon Pretzels are crunchy pretzel twists coated with a mixture of melted butter, bourbon, brown sugar, vanilla bean paste, smoked paprika, garlic powder, and red pepper flakes then baked to blend the flavors and create a sweet, smoky, and slightly spicy snack. The cooking process enhances seasoning adhesion and flavor infusion.

Description

This snack recipe starts by arranging pretzel twists in a single layer on parchment-lined baking sheets to allow even heat exposure. The coating is made by whisking melted unsalted butter with bourbon, brown sugar, vanilla bean paste, smoked paprika, garlic powder, and a pinch of crushed red pepper flakes. Tossing the pretzels in this mixture ensures each piece is well coated before baking.

Baking at 300°F for a total of 25 minutes with a stir at the midpoint allows the pretzels to absorb the flavors and develop a balanced sweetness combined with smoky and spicy notes. The garlic powder and vanilla bean contribute savory and aromatic layers that complement the sweetness of the brown sugar and the warmth of bourbon.

After cooling on the baking sheets, the pretzels can be stored in airtight containers or resealable bags for gifting or snacking. Their complex seasoning makes them suitable for parties or to accompany a drink selection.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 1 pretzel twists 16 ounce bag
  • 1/2 cup butter melted, unsalted
  • 1/4 cup bourbon
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla bean paste brand Rodelle
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • pinch red pepper flakes crushed

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 300 degrees F. Line two baking sheets with parchment paper. Spread the pretzels all over both sheets. You don’t want to layer them.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together the melted butter, bourbon, sugar, vanilla paste, paprika, garlic and pepper flakes. Pour it over the pretzels and use your hands to toss everything together really well. Place the pretzels in the oven and bake for 15 minutes. Toss and bake for 10 minutes more. Remove and let cool completely on the sheets. I like to store these in mason jars or even resealable containers or bags. You can dress them up cute for gifting!
