Smothered Pork Chops

Smothered Pork Chops feature pan-seared bone-in chops cooked to a juicy finish, topped with a creamy mushroom and onion gravy. The sauce made from sautéed mushrooms, onions, garlic, flour, beef broth, and heavy cream coats the pork chops, adding richness and depth. Parsley sprinkled before serving provides a fresh color contrast. This dish results in tender meat with an earthy, creamy sauce perfect for a comforting main meal.

Description

This recipe for Smothered Pork Chops starts by seasoning bone-in pork chops and cooking them until they reach a safe internal temperature, creating a browned crust. The chops are set aside while a sauce is prepared in the same pan. Butter is melted to sauté sliced mushrooms and yellow onions until they are tender and browned, then minced garlic is briefly cooked. Flour is added to thicken the sauce before slowly whisking in beef broth to create a smooth base. After simmering until thick, heavy cream enriches the sauce, which is seasoned to taste.

Returning the pork chops to the pan allows them to warm in the sauce, which is spooned over the chops when served. The gravy combines the earthy flavor of mushrooms with the sweetness of caramelized onions and savory depth from the beef broth and cream. Parsley adds a touch of brightness and color.

This dish pairs well with mashed potatoes or rice to soak up the sauce and can be served alongside steamed vegetables for a complete meal.
