Sockeye Salmon Recipe
Description
Get the Recipe: Sockeye Salmon Recipe uses a 12-ounce sockeye salmon fillet marinated in olive oil, fresh lemon juice, minced garlic, dried or fresh dill, salt, and black pepper. After a short marination of about 15 to 20 minutes in the fridge, the salmon is baked at 375°F until cooked through and flaky. The recipe suggests garnishing with fresh lemon slices and dill to enhance the presentation and flavors.
The flavor profile delivers a gentle citrus brightness from the lemon combined with herbaceous notes from dill, balanced by the garlic's savory depth. The baking method gently cooks the salmon, avoiding dryness and maintaining a tender, moist texture.
It pairs well as a main protein alongside vegetables or rice, making it a straightforward meal option. Using wild-caught Alaskan salmon is recommended for taste and quality. Careful timing during baking ensures the fish flakes easily, indicating it is properly cooked without over-drying.
Leftover salmon can be stored in an airtight container for up to four days in the refrigerator. Using a meat thermometer to check doneness is a practical tip to avoid overcooking.
Ingredients
- 12 ounces sockeye salmon fillet
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 2 tbsp lemon juice fresh
- 2 garlic minced, cloves
- 1 tsp dill dried or fresh
- ½ tsp salt sea salt
- ½ tsp black pepper
- lemon to garnish, slices
- dill to garnish, fresh
Instructions
- First, preheat the oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit (190 degrees Celsius).
- In a small bowl, mix together the olive oil, lemon juice, minced garlic, dill, salt, and pepper to create a marinade.
- Place the sockeye salmon in a baking dish. Pour the marinade over it and coat evenly. Let the salmon marinate in the fridge for 15 to 20 minutes.
- While the salmon is marinating, line a rimmed baking pan or baking dish with parchment paper. Or, lightly spray with nonstick spray.
- After marinating, take the salmon out of the marinade. Place it in the prepared baking dish.
- Bake for 12 to 15 minutes, depending on the thickness of the fillet. The salmon should be cooked through and flake easily with a fork.
- Once the salmon is done baking, remove it from the oven. Let it rest for a minute.
- Finally, garnish with lemon slices and fresh herbs if desired.
Notes
- You can use either one large 12-ounce fillet or two smaller 6-ounce fillets for this recipe.
- For best flavor, use fresh wild-caught Alaskan sockeye salmon.
- If pressed for time, even marinating for 5 minutes adds good flavor.
- Avoid overbaking; the salmon should easily flake with a fork to ensure tenderness.
- Use a meat thermometer to confirm the internal temperature for perfect doneness.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 days.
