Sorrel Drink
Description
The Sorrel Drink recipe combines dried sorrel with grated ginger, aromatic spices including allspice berries and cloves, and orange peel steeped for about an hour to infuse a tart, floral, and slightly spicy flavor. The preparation calls for boiling water to extract the rich hues and flavors, producing a distinctive deep red beverage. Sweetness is added afterward via syrup to balance the tartness according to personal preference.
The drink is served cold over ice, making it well suited for warmer weather or as a festive refreshment. Garnishes such as orange or lime wedges add brightness and a citrus note that complements the spiced hibiscus base.
Preparation notes advise rinsing dried sorrel to remove dust, careful timing on steeping to avoid overly bitter or spiced results, and thorough straining for a smooth texture. The sorrel mixture should be cooled before refrigeration. The drink stores refrigerated up to a week and can be easily scaled up for larger gatherings.
