Sorrel Punch (Hibiscus Punch)

Ingredients

Servings
  • 8 cups water 1.89 L
  • 2 cups dried sorrel 256g
  • 1 ginger peeled and grated, 2-inch piece
  • 1 tsp allspice berries
  • 4 cloves
  • orange peel
  • 1 cup white Jamaican rum 236ml
  • simple sugar syrup to sweeten, or maple syrup

Instructions

  1. Boil water in a pot on the stove.
  2. Add in sorrel, ginger, berries, cloves, orange peel and let steep for about 1 hr.
  3. While mixture is steeping, make the sugar syrup.
  4. Strain sorrel juice into a pitcher or jug and sweeten with sugar syrup, to taste.
  5. Stir in the Jamaican rum.
  6. Serve sorrel punch poured over ice and garnished with orange wedges.

  • Want to make your hibiscus punch a deeper red? Simply use more sorrel.
  • This recipe calls for dried hibiscus, but you can make this sorrel punch with fresh hibiscus too. Just note that the punch will be lighter in color.
