Sour Cream Cornbread

This Sour Cream Cornbread uses a combination of softened butter, sugar, eggs, sour cream, and milk mixed into a batter with cornmeal, flour, and leaveners. The addition of honey adds subtle sweetness to the golden edges and moist crumb. It bakes to a tender, lightly sweet bread with a soft texture, suitable as a side for meals or on its own warm from the oven.

Description

Sour Cream Cornbread is made by creaming butter and sugar until smooth, then incorporating eggs followed by sour cream and milk to create moisture and richness. Dry ingredients including cornmeal, flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt are added gradually to avoid over-mixing. Drizzling honey on top before baking adds a touch of extra sweetness and a slight glaze.

Baked at a moderate oven temperature, the cornbread develops a golden crust with a soft, moist interior from the sour cream, which tenderizes the crumb. The bread strikes a balance between mildly sweet and buttery flavors, complementing savory dishes such as chili or barbecue.

It is sliced and best served warm but also keeps well for leftovers. This recipe is straightforward, requiring common pantry ingredients and simple mixing steps.
