Description

This black bean burger recipe uses canned black beans as a base, combined in a food processor with jalapeño, red bell pepper, chipotle pepper in adobo sauce, and fresh cilantro for a spicy and herbaceous flavor. The bean mixture is seasoned with cumin, chili powder, cayenne, onion powder, and garlic powder to add depth and a smoky edge.

Breadcrumbs are incorporated gradually to achieve a sticky consistency that holds the patties together without being too dense.   • 1 can black beans drained and rinsed
  • 1 cup bread crumbs
  • 1 jalapeño seeds removed
  • 1/2 cup cilantro
  • 1/2 bell pepper red
  • 1/2 Tablespoon cumin
  • 1 chipotle pepper in adobo sauce add more if you want it extra spicy!
  • 1/2 Tablespoon chili powder
  • pinch cayenne pepper
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder

Instructions

  1. Place beans, chipotle pepper, cilantro, bell pepper, and jalapeno in food processor and pulse until it is all mixed together and smooth.
  2. Place bean mixture into bowl add all seasonings and mix together with hands. Slowly mix in bread crumbs until mixture becomes sticky. You may need more or less than a cup.
  3. Put mixture in refrigerator for 10 minutes.
  4. Remove bowl from fridge and form 4 medium patties. If mixture is too wet still, add more bread crumbs.
  5. Place patties in a non stick pan. Cook until both side are crispy, and the burgers are warmed through.
  6. Remove from pan and serve on buns, top with your favorite burger toppings.

Notes

  • Serve the patties on buns, in tortillas, or wrapped in lettuce for different eating options.
