Spiced Apple Cranberry Warm Rum Punch

This warm rum punch blends apple cider and cranberry juice with warming spices like cinnamon and nutmeg, complemented by fresh orange peel and apple slices. The addition of spiced rum at serving creates a cozy, aromatic drink ideal for cold weather or festive gatherings. It can be prepared either on the stovetop or in a slow cooker, allowing the spices to infuse thoroughly during a gentle simmer.

Description

The punch combines apple cider, cranberry juice, cinnamon sticks, nutmeg, sliced apple, and orange peel and juice in a pot or slow cooker. Heating the mixture until just boiling before reducing to a simmer allows the cinnamon and nutmeg to release their flavors gently into the liquid. Adding the spiced rum right before serving maintains its bright character and warmth. Using a slow cooker offers a hands-off approach while still developing a rich spiced flavor.

The drink is served warm, making it suitable as a comforting beverage for colder months or holiday occasions. The mix of tart cranberry and sweet apple cider balances with the citrus and warm spices, enhanced further by the spirited kick of the rum. This combination creates a layered taste experience with fruity and spiced notes.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 6 cups apple cider
  • 4 cups cranberry juice cocktail
  • 4 cinnamon stick
  • 1/8 tsp. ground nutmeg
  • 1 apple sliced
  • 1 orange peel & juice
  • 1 cup spiced rum

Instructions

  1. Stove Method: Place apple cider, cranberry juice, cinnamon sticks, nutmeg, and the sliced apple in a stockpot. With a vegetable peeler, peel the orange rind into long strips if you can (it looks pretty) put them in the pot and then squeeze the juice of the orange into the pot as well. Heat to high and once it's about to boil, reduce heat to simmer and simmer for about 20 minutes while the cinnamon sticks work their magic. When you are getting ready to serve, add the rum, stir, and enjoy!
  2. Slow Cooker Method: Add everything but the rum to your slow cooker and set it on "high".  Let the cinnamon sticks to their thing for about an hour, then switch to "keep warm". Add the rum, stir to combine. Enjoy!
