Spiced Chai Sugar Cookies
Description
These cookies incorporate classic sugar cookie ingredients with a chai spice blend folded into the dough and used additionally for rolling. The dry mix contains flour, baking soda and powder, and chai spices including cinnamon, cardamom, ginger, cloves, and allspice. Butter and sugar are creamed until smooth, then the egg and vanilla are beaten in before gradually mixing in the dry ingredients.
The dough is portioned into balls, rolled in a sugar and chai spice mixture, and placed on cookie sheets. A glass dipped in sugar flattens each cookie slightly before the dough chills for at least an hour, which helps firm the dough and enhances texture. Cookies are baked at 375°F for about 10 minutes until just before edges brown, resulting in tender centers with lightly crisp edges and a chai-infused aroma.
Once cooled, these cookies can be stored in an airtight container and enjoyed as a fragrant treat blending warm chai spices with traditional sugar cookie sweetness. The chai spice blend provides a distinct but balanced flavor that sets them apart from standard sugar cookies.
Notes mention that flattening after chilling gives the cookies a lighter colored edge and that nutritional info varies with brands. The recipe yields approximately 18-20 cookies.
