Spicy Cauliflower Bites (Vegan)
Description
The Spicy Cauliflower Bites recipe features cauliflower cut into medium florets dipped first in a smooth batter made from flour, paprika, black pepper, salt, garlic powder, and plant-based milk. The coated florets are then rolled in breadcrumbs and baked at 400°F for 20 minutes to achieve a light crispness. After the initial baking, the florets are coated in a mixture of hot sauce and olive oil, which adds moistness and heat, then baked an additional 20 minutes to develop a crisp, golden finish.
This two-step baking method ensures the bites have a crunchy outside and tender, cooked cauliflower inside. The use of plant-based milk and vegan-friendly ingredients keeps the bites suitable for vegans while providing flavor complexity from paprika, garlic powder, and the hot sauce.
These bites can be served as a spicy vegan snack or appetizer, paired with dipping sauces if desired. They offer texture contrast from the crispy breading and heat from the sauce without overwhelming the natural cauliflower flavor.
Ingredients
- 1 kg cauliflower
- 1 cup flour
- ½ tablespoon paprika sweet
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon garlic powder
- 1 cup plant-based milk we used unsweetened soy milk
- 2 cups bread crumbs
- 100 ml crazy bastard sauce or any other hot sauce
- ⅓ cup olive oil
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 200C/400F. Cut the cauliflower into medium size florets.
- In a large mixing bowl add the flour, sweet paprika, pepper, salt, garlic powder and milk. Mix all the ingredients together. The batter should be smooth with all ingredients incorporated.
- Add the cauliflower florets into the batter and evenly coat. Prepare the bread crumbs in a separate bowl. With your hand, take one cauliflower floret, dip it into the bread crumbs so it covers the whole floret and place on a baking tray. Repeat for the rest of the cauliflower.
- Bake in the oven for 20 minutes.
- In a medium size bowl, add the hot sauce and the olive oil and mix. Coat the cauliflower florets with the hot sauce, and place on the same baking tray. When the whole batch is evenly coated, bake for another 20 minutes until crisp and golden.
- Serve with your prefered sauce.
