Spicy Guacamole
Description
Spicy Guacamole combines mashed ripe avocados with red onion, fresh cilantro, lime juice, finely minced jalapeño, and a seasoning blend of cayenne pepper, garlic powder, cumin, and salt. The jalapeños can be prepared to control the heat intensity by including or removing the seeds. The texture can be adjusted from chunky to smooth to suit preference. The lime juice adds brightness and balances the rich avocado base, while the seasoning blend brings warmth and a subtle smoky depth. This guacamole is ideal to serve fresh, accompanying tortilla chips or complementing Mexican-inspired meals.
The preparation involves making a dry seasoning blend, mashing the avocado, then mixing in the diced onions, jalapeño, lime juice, fresh cilantro, and seasoning. Taste testing with a chip allows fine-tuning of lime and salt to achieve the desired flavor balance.
The guacamole is best enjoyed soon after preparation for freshness and optimal flavor, although small leftovers can be refrigerated briefly. Adjust spice levels to personal heat tolerance by controlling the jalapeño seeds and cayenne pepper quantity.
Ingredients
- 3 avocado medium sized, ripe
- 1-2 jalapeno pepper see instructions
- ¼-½ cup red onion finely diced
- 2-3 TBSP cilantro chopped, fresh
- 1 lime small, halved
SPICY GUACAMOLE SEASONING
- ½-¾ tsp ground cayenne pepper spice to taste
- ½ tsp garlic powder
- ½ tsp cumin ground
- ¼ tsp salt to taste
Instructions
- To make the seasoning blend, combine the spices in a small bowl and mix.
- Slice each avocado in half, remove the pit, and use a spoon to scoop out the avocado from each peel.
- Add avocado to a medium bowl and fork mash until desired consistency is reached. You can make this guac as chunky (or smooth) as you'd like!
- Next prep the jalapeño(s). Remove the stem and slice in half. For a spicier guacamole, leave the seeds intact. For a mild guacamole, use a spoon to scoop out the insides of each half of the pepper. If you want your spice level somewhere in between use the cayenne pepper and seeds to perfectly spice your dip. Finely mince jalapeño. If you haven't already. finely dice ¼-½ cup of red onion.
- Add onion, jalapeño,, 2 TBSP chopped fresh cilantro, and juice of half a lime to the bowl along with the homemade seasoning blend.
- Mix and dive in with a tortilla chip to taste test. If you'd like, add the juice of the remaining half of the lime and any additional salt, cumin, cayenne, and cilantro your heart desires. Enjoy!
Notes
- Choose ripe but firm avocados for better texture and flavor.
- Adjust jalapeño seeds and cayenne pepper to control spiciness.
- Prepare guacamole just before serving to prevent browning.
- Lime juice helps preserve color and adds brightness.
- Enjoy with tortilla chips or as a topping for tacos and grilled meats.
