Spicy Sausage Hummus Pasta
Description
Spicy Sausage Hummus Pasta features macaroni noodles cooked until tender and tossed with a sautéed mixture of spicy Italian sausage and diced white onions. The sauce develops as spicy hummus is combined with reserved hot pasta water and lemon juice, then mixed with crumbled feta to add a creamy, tangy layer. Optional sriracha can be added for more heat. This method results in a thick, flavorful sauce coating the pasta, balancing the rich sausage with the zesty and creamy hummus sauce. This pasta can be served warm as a filling dinner and is flexible with spice levels depending on preferences.
The recipe involves browning the sausage and onions in a skillet before lowering the heat to gently mix in the hummus and other sauce ingredients. The use of feta cheese introduces a creamy touch and a bit of saltiness that enhances the overall flavor. Adjusting sriracha or swapping sausage types allows customization of the spice level.
Leftover pasta can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to four days, making this a practical dish for multiple meals. The recipe notes suggest substituting regular sausage or other ground meats and using non-spicy hummus for a milder version, omitting the sriracha if desired.
