Spinach Basil Pesto {Nut-Free}

This spinach basil pesto offers a nut-free alternative to traditional pesto by combining fresh spinach and basil with garlic, lemon juice, Parmesan cheese, and olive oil in a smooth, versatile sauce. Its bright herbal flavor and creamy texture make it suitable as a pasta sauce, spread, or dip.

Description

Spinach Basil Pesto {Nut-Free} blends 4 cups of packed spinach leaves and 2 cups of packed basil leaves with olive oil, garlic cloves, lemon juice, Parmesan cheese, salt, and black pepper. The ingredients are processed in a food processor until smooth, creating a vibrant green pesto without nuts.

The pesto’s flavor balances the peppery basil and mild spinach, with hints of garlic and lemon, and the richness of Parmesan. It has a smooth but slightly textured consistency adaptable to many uses: tossed with pasta, as a condiment for grilled vegetables, chicken, or fish, or as a spread on bread or sandwiches.

The recipe notes that olive oil quantity can be adjusted for a thinner consistency. The pesto stores well refrigerated for about a week and freezes up to six months, retaining its herbal qualities. This nut-free version suits those avoiding nuts while still providing classic pesto flavors.
