Spiral Ham
Description
This Spiral Ham recipe starts with a thawed 8-10 pound spiral ham brought to room temperature. A custom glaze is prepared by combining brown sugar, honey, orange juice, ground cinnamon, and ground cloves in a saucepan, then gently simmered until the sugar dissolves. The ham is placed cut side down in a roasting pan and brushed with half the glaze before being tightly wrapped in foil.
Baked at 325°F for about 12-15 minutes per pound, the foil wrap helps maintain moisture during cooking. Once the ham reaches an internal temperature of 145°F, it is removed from the oven, unwrapped, and brushed with the remaining glaze, including brushing in between the pre-sliced cuts for maximum flavor penetration. The ham returns to the oven unwrapped for another 10 minutes, allowing the glaze to set and slightly caramelize on the surface.
After cooking, the ham is loosely covered with foil and rested for 15 minutes, which helps juices redistribute, ensuring moist and flavorful slices. This sweet, spiced glaze complements the smoky, salty characteristics of the spiral ham, making it suitable for holiday meals or large gatherings.
