Split Pea Soup (My Grandma's Recipe)
Description
The recipe begins by simmering chicken drumsticks in salted water to create a flavorful broth. Onions and carrots are sautéed separately until soft and added to the chicken pot. Split peas are then added and cooked until tender, thickening the soup naturally. Sliced potatoes are included mid-way for additional substance and creamy texture. Seasoning with salt and black pepper adjusts the flavor. Freshly chopped dill is stirred in at the end, infusing the soup with a distinctive aromatic note.
The cooking method develops a mildly savory broth enriched by the chicken and vegetables, while the split peas break down for a smooth, velvety consistency. The carrots and potatoes provide subtle sweetness and softness. The dill adds a fresh, slightly tangy lift that balances the hearty ingredients.
This split pea soup serves well as a warming lunch or dinner dish, especially during cooler weather. It pairs nicely with rustic bread or a green salad. Leftovers can be reheated easily and may thicken further, making an equally satisfying next-day meal.
