Starbucks Chai Tea Latte (Copycat Recipe)

This perfectly spiced chai tea latte captures Starbucks' signature flavor with a blend of aromatic spices, creamy milk, and a hint of vanilla sweetness.

  • 2 chai tea bags
  • 1 cup 2% milk
  • 1 ounce Vanilla Syrup

Instructions

  1. Bring the water to a boil. When the water is boiling, pour it into a large mug.
  2. Add the tea bags and steep for 3 to 5 minutes. Remove the tea bags.
  3. Meanwhile, heat the milk in the microwave for about 30 seconds to 1 minute.
  4. When the milk is hot, froth it using a milk frother or by shaking the milk in a jar with a lid until it has doubled in size. If you use a jar to shake the milk, be sure to fasten the lid well and shake for about 30 seconds.
  5. Pour the vanilla syrup into the tea and stir.
  6. Pour the frothed milk into the tea and spoon any remaining milk froth on top.

Notes

  • Make ahead: Brew a stronger chai concentrate (using 4 tea bags and the same amount of water) and store in the refrigerator for up to 5 days. Dilute with hot water and add frothed milk when ready to serve.
  • Batch preparation: For entertaining, multiply the recipe and keep the chai base warm in a slow cooker. Let guests add their own frothed milk.
  • Serving temperature: Chai lattes are best enjoyed immediately while hot. The ideal temperature is around 160°F (71°C).
  • Presentation: Serve in clear glass mugs to showcase the layers of chai and milk. Add garnishes like cinnamon sticks, star anise, or a light dusting of nutmeg for visual appeal.
