Starbucks Eggnog Latte Recipe
Description
This recipe recreates the Starbucks Eggnog Latte by combining rich eggnog and milk heated either in a frother or a saucepan, then pouring it over freshly brewed espresso or strong coffee. The mixture is optionally topped with whipped cream and freshly grated or ground nutmeg to add a warm spice note. The beverage balances creamy sweetness from the eggnog with the robust bitterness of coffee.
The preparation can be adjusted for different diets by substituting plant-based milks or eggnog variants. For larger groups, the drink can be made in a crockpot to keep it warm and easily served. Additionally, optional ingredients such as vanilla extract, flavored syrups, or spirits like brandy, rum, or bourbon can be added according to taste preferences. An iced version blends cold coffee with frothed, chilled eggnog and milk.
Leftover eggnog coffee can be stored in the refrigerator for up to two days and gently reheated without boiling. Using a blender can mimic frothing if a frother is unavailable.
Ingredients
- 3-4 ounces espresso brewed, or very strong coffee
- 1/3 cup milk or other % milks or plant-based milk, whole
- 2/3 cup eggnog I like full-fat, but may use other %, or plant-based eggnog
Optional Toppings
- 2 tablespoons Whipped Cream
- 1/8 teaspoon nutmeg fresh grated is best, but ground may be substituted
Instructions
- Add the milk and eggnog to a frother and heat until hot and increased in size. Be careful that your frother holds this quantity.
- If not, heat the milk and eggnog in a small saucepan until just hot (do not boil), then use a handheld frother to add the volume. See tips if you don’t have a frother.
- Meanwhile, make the espresso or very strong coffee.
- Pour espresso into a mug and top with ½ the milk and eggnog mixture, topping with whipped cream and fresh grated nutmeg (the best!). That’s it! Easy and save loads of money this holiday season!
Notes
- Store leftover eggnog latte in the fridge up to 2 days; reheat gently without boiling, then refroth or drink as is.
- For parties, make in a crockpot on high for 1 to 1½ hours, then keep warm; serve with whipped cream, nutmeg, cinnamon sticks, and optional spirits like rum or brandy.
- If no frother, heat milk and eggnog and blend for 30 seconds to add froth, covering carefully to allow steam release.
- Dairy-free option: substitute milk and eggnog with plant-based versions; adjust ratios for preferred eggnog flavor intensity.
- To make iced latte, use cold brewed coffee over ice and top with frothed cold eggnog and milk; garnish with whipped cream and nutmeg.
