Starbucks Peppermint Hot Chocolate
Description
The Starbucks Peppermint Hot Chocolate recipe begins by gently heating milk until steaming but not boiling. Cocoa powder is whisked into the milk to create a smooth chocolate base; instant coffee may be added optionally to deepen the chocolate flavor. Peppermint flavor and sugar are combined in after the cocoa to adjust sweetness depending on the intensity of the peppermint.
A pinch of salt can be included to enhance and balance flavors. The drink is poured into a mug and finished with optional toppings such as marshmallows, crushed peppermint candies, or chocolate shavings to add festive textures and additional flavors.
Substitutions include using heavy cream combined with water or milk for creamier texture, or swapping cocoa powder for dark chocolate bars. Variations like adding a shot of espresso create a Peppermint Mocha, or frothing the milk after heating transforms it into a Peppermint Latte. For adult versions, liquors such as Kahlua or Bailey’s can be added.
