Steak and Potatoes Foil Packs
Description
This recipe assembles bite-sized pieces of sirloin steak, quartered baby potatoes, and thinly sliced onions tossed with garlic, fresh parsley, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. The mixture is divided into foil packets topped with small butter pieces. Cooking these on a medium-high grill sears the steak while steaming the potatoes and onions inside the packets.
The foil pack method traps steam and juices, ensuring the steak remains juicy and the potatoes become tender without drying out. Cooking time is about 6 to 7 minutes per side depending on desired doneness and potato tenderness. Using heavy-duty foil prevents leaks or tears during grilling.
The recipe is flexible regarding potato variety; fingerling or Yukon Gold potatoes can be used if cut smaller to match steak cooking time. Sirloin is preferred for quick cooking but any steak cut suitable for grilling can work. The assembled packets make an easy grill-side meal with minimal mess.
Ingredients
- 1 ½ pounds sirloin steak
- 1 pound baby potato quartered
- 1 onion peeled and thinly sliced
- 1 Tablespoon parsley chopped, fresh
- 1 Tablespoon garlic minced
- 2 teaspoons Italian seasoning
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- 2 Tablespoons butter diced into small pieces
Instructions
- Preheat the grill over medium high heat (approximately 400 degrees F).
- Cut the steak into 1 inch pieces. Then place the steak, potatoes, onions, olive oil, parsley, minced garlic, Italian seasoning, salt and pepper in a large mixing bowl. Toss to thoroughly coat the ingredients with the seasonings.
- Place the ingredients in the center of 4 different pieces of foil that are at least 12X12 inches. Top each one with the diced butter.
- Seal the foil packet and place them on the grill. Cook for 6-7 minutes per side until the steak is cooked to the preference that you prefer and the potatoes are fork tender.
- Be careful when opening the foil packet and enjoy immediately while warm.
Notes
- Use heavy-duty foil to prevent tearing and leakage during grilling.
- Fingerling or Yukon Gold potatoes may substitute if diced smaller to cook evenly with steak.
- Any preferred steak cut can be used; sirloin is recommended for this method.
