Steak and Shake Garlic Double Steakburger

Steak and Shake Garlic Double Steakburger is made from ground chuck formed into thin patties seasoned with a blend of salt, black pepper, onion salt, and garlic salt. The patties are cooked on a grill or skillet, topped with American cheese slices, and stacked double on toasted hamburger buns brushed with homemade garlic butter. The result is a layered burger that blends savory beef with mild garlic butter richness and melted cheese.

Description

This recipe uses 1 1/2 pounds of ground beef chuck divided into eight balls, which are flattened into thin patties to create a classic thin, juicy burger texture. The seasoning combines salt, ground black pepper, onion salt, and garlic salt, providing a balanced savory and mild garlic flavor. Garlic butter is prepared by melting butter with minced garlic, then brushed onto hamburger buns before toasting, imparting a fragrant buttery crust.

The patties cook over medium-high heat, allowing a seared exterior. Each cooked patty receives a slice of American cheese before stacking two patties together for each double burger. Toasting the buns with garlic butter adds an additional buttery garlic flavor layer and contrast in texture with a lightly crisp surface.

This double steakburger assembles into a savory, cheesy sandwich with pronounced garlic notes from both the seasoning and the buttered buns. It’s suitable for casual meals, offering rich, satisfying flavor through simple ingredient combinations and precise seasoning.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 1 1/2 pound ground beef chuck

Burger Seasoning

  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper ground
  • 1/4 teaspoon onion salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic salt

Garlic Butter

  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 2 teaspoons garlic minced
  • 8 lices American cheese
  • 4 Hamburger Bun

Instructions

  1. Divide ground chuck into 8 small balls.
  2. Prepare burger seasoning by combining the salt, black pepper, onion salt, and garlic salt together in a small bowl.
  3. Prepare the garlic butter by melting together the butter and adding the two teaspoons of minced garlic in a small saucepan. Heat melted butter for 3 to 5 minutes or until the garlic butter becomes fragrant.
  4. Brush the garlic butter onto the buns, and place the buns on the skillet to toast. Toast the buns long enough so the bread begins to brown.
  5. Brush a small amount of the butter on top of the ground beef and then sprinkle some garlic salt on top.
  6. Heat the grill or skillet to medium-high heat.
  7. Place the ground beef balls on the heated surface and use a spatula to press the burgers into thin patties.
  8. Season patties with the salt mixture.
  9. When the burgers have cooked on one side, flip them over and add a slice of cheese to each patty.
  10. Stack half of the burger patties on top of the other. Place the patties onto the buns. Dress the burgers as you desire.
