Ingredients
FOR THE STEAK & MARINADE
- 1 pound beef use chuck, brisket, or flank steak, cut into bite-sized pieces
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- 2 cloves garlic minced
- 3/4 teaspoon baking soda (or use cornstarch)
FOR THE FRIED RICE
- 2 tablespoons sesame oil or use vegetable oil
- 1 red bell pepper chopped
- 5 green onions chopped
- 3 cloves garlic minced
- 4 cups day old cooked rice See Notes
- 3 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon fish sauce
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- 1 tablespoon Chili garlic sauce or use sriracha or hot sauce for spicy
- 2 large eggs scrambled
Instructions
- Add the beef to a large bowl. Whisk together the soy sauce, sesame oil, garlic, and baking soda, then toss with the meat to coat evenly. Marinate at least 1 hour or overnight for more flavor penetration.
- Heat the sesame oil in a wok or large pan over high heat.
- Add the beef and bell pepper and stir fry for 2 minutes, getting all sides.
- Add the green onion and garlic and stir fry rapidly for 1 minute.
- Add the rice, soy sauce, fish sauce, sesame oil, and chili-garlic sauce. Stir fry for 2 minutes, until the rice gets slightly toasty.
- Move the rice aside and pour in the eggs. When it starts to set, gently stir until you get large curds, then stir them throughout the rice. Serve.
Notes
- Day old rice is ideal for stir frying, as it is dried out and will not steam in the pan.
