Strawberries and Cream Stuffed French Toast
Description
This recipe uses Texas toast or similarly thick bread slices filled with a mixture of cream cheese, strawberry jam, fresh diced strawberries, and lemon zest. The filling adds a creamy and slightly tangy element inside the toast, which contrasts with the sweet and softly cooked egg custard coating the exterior. The slices are dipped briefly in a custard made of milk, eggs, vanilla, and brown sugar, then pan-fried in butter until each side is golden and slightly crisp.
The finished French toast is delicate yet substantial, combining soft, creamy filling with a lightly crisp outer crust. It is served with an assortment of fresh berries, a dusting of powdered sugar, whipped cream, and real maple syrup to enhance the fruity and sweet profile. The recipe suits a weekend breakfast or brunch where a special indulgence is desired.
The preparation is straightforward, requiring careful soaking to avoid overly soggy bread and moderate heat to achieve a golden crust without burning. The garnish allows customization of sweetness and freshness according to preference.
